The problem:

Coffee Rust

Coffee leaf rust is a fungal disease devastating coffee production worldwide. This fungus severely hampers photosynthesis, resulting in much lower quantity and quality of coffee. The parasitic fungus thrives in humid and warm environments, and global warming has led to more and more coffee trees falling victim. When coffee rust arrived in the state of Oaxaca in 2015, almost 50% of coffee production volume was lost.

The opportunity:

Disease Resistant Coffee Trees

New varietals of coffee trees resistant to this fungus are currently being cultivated. These trees are key in helping save many family owned coffee farms all over the world.
